The Children’s Science Explorium offers fascinating, interactive exhibits, programs, and camps. Each is designed to enhance 5 – 12 year old explorers’ understanding of everyday physical sciences.
The Explorium is located inside the Sugar Sand Park Community Center. Admission is a suggested $5.00 donation per person.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR PROGRAMS:
  • Register for programs at the front desk of the Sugar Sand Park Community Center.
  • Parents must register their own children and show a copy of each child’s birth certificate.
  • Participants must pre-register at least one (1) days in advance of the chosen program to ensure enough space and materials.
  • Call Sugar Sand Park Community Center at (561) 347-3900 for specific registration dates and information. 

    Generally, residents may register four (4) weeks in advance; non-residents may register two (2) weeks in advance. Residents live within the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Parks District or Boca Raton City Limits. All children must be checked in and promptly picked up at the end of each program.

    AFTER SCHOOL SCIENCE SERIES     (return to top)

    September – Dino Dig
    Explore the past as we use techniques real paleontologists use. What are fossils? Where do they
    come from? How do they form? Why did Dinosaurs become extinct? You will discover all that and more as
    we check out the incredible world of dinosaurs.
    Dates & Grades:

    October – Magic Mysteries
    Explore the magic of science, or the science of magic, as we investigate some “tricks” this month!

    NovemberTake Flight
    It has been more than 100 years since the Wright brothers made their historic flight! Before you fly away for the holidays, discover how airplanes, helicopters, and even birds stay high in the sky.

    December – Science Gone Wrong
    Uh Oh! That wasn’t supposed to happen, but I’m glad it did! Some of the coolest inventions have been made by accident. We’ll explore some interesting inventions that were made by mistake.

    These monthly classes engage children in hands-on experiments to explore a variety of science topics.
    Days: Tuesdays                 
    Time: 1:00pm for ages 7-9; 2:00pm for ages 10-12

    Session 2 October 12: Solar Science
    Session 3 November 2: Reasons for Seasons
    Session 4 December 14: Crystal Science

    Science Stories

    Join staff and volunteers every Saturday as we share some of our favorite books about the curious world of science.

    Date: September 4, 2010 and every Saturday following

    Time: 11:00 am

    Location: Explorium

    Ages: 5 -12 years

    Cost: Free



            
    EYES TO THE SKIES            (return to top)               
    Recommended for Ages 8+
    Join us for our telescope nights! These free, informal events are held in the parking lot behind the Explorium (weather permitting).
    We’ll explore the skies with our professional-grade 16-inch Meade LX Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.
    All children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
    No registration required – just show up! The telescope will be out for at least one hour after the scheduled start time. Note: Stars must be visible for the telescope to align.

    Dates for 2010: 

    September 10 at 7:30 p.m. Special Planetarium program.
